Posada Amazonas Posada Amazonas is a comfortable yet unobtrusive 30 bedroom lodge owned jointly by Rainforest Expeditions and the Community of Infierno. Thanks to its accessibility, excellent wildlife observation opportunities, and comfortable accommodations, Posada Amazonas is the ideal short, economic, introductory nature tour to Amazonia´s richest rain forests.
Posada Amazonas is located on the Infierno Community´s territory and is directly adjacent to the 750,000 hectare Tambopata-National Reserve in southeastern Amazonian Peru.
The lodge itself consists of a complex of ten sections: rooms, dining area and kitchen, relaxation area and internal support facilities. The entire roof of the lodge uses high quality crisneja palm fronds, whereas the floors are of tropical mahogany. The rooms complex consists of four 9 X 24 meter structures with six rooms per unit.
Posada Amazonas is constructed using a combination of modern eco-lodge techniques with the same traditional materials and architectural techniques that native communities throughout the Amazon use for building their homes: wood, palm fronds, wild cane and clay.
The 30 rooms are 7 x 4 meters, holding three beds comfortably, although they are set up for two. The walls dividing each room are built using cane and clay: the combination of clay and cane achieves two important objectives: acting as thermal regulators and providing a charming final look.
Each room has a large window facing the forest, and a second small window on the opposite side, set up very high, to keep the rooms well ventilated. Beds are sized for Americans or Europeans (1.05m X 2.05m) with mosquito nets. Each room has a private bathroom with cold water only.
The dining area can host 80 people at the same time and is designed to be used as a conference room and as a slide presentation area. The clearing around the lodge is just large enough to allow the lodge to be built without hazards (only the large trees that could fall on the lodge were cut). This way each room has a great view of primary forest. Between the five room modules there is an open, roofed structure with hammocks where people can relax and enjoy.
